When depicting horses, we often focus on their profile, as the side view of a horse offers striking visual features that best capture its elegance and dynamic posture. Two juxtaposed oil paintings present two distinct profiles: one of a "horse commonly domesticated and used as a tool," and the other of a "zebra, untamed and adept at concealing itself in the wild." We habitually view everything from a human-centered perspective, evaluating whether a species is useful to us.
